RobertChura 0 Posted September 19, 2002 I looked at your folder that included this and other photographs and in my opinion you have better images than this one. I am confused as to why this receives such high ratings. My main complaint is that the light from the lamp overwhelms the image and she is in shadows. Link to comment
babatunde martins 0 Posted September 20, 2002 Looking at this image, I could probably do without the lamp though I keep comming back to it and thinking hmmm I like it with the lamp also. heres an alternate Link to comment
RobertChura 0 Posted September 20, 2002 I do like it a lot better without the lamp. It seems to be in sync with your other portraits. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted September 22, 2002 Great shot as far as pose, attitude, expression, mood and composition + angle are concerned, and I certainly like square cropping with or without the lamp, BUT... the light flare is quite unfortunate to me. Wouldn't we prefer actual colors here and real blacks rather than yellow blacks ? Here equipment matters a great deal, and if you don't own studio flashes, even with a high Asa rating, things are not going to be easy. But what you could and probably should have done, is to choose a very slightly different angle and protect your lens from the flare... Sad to see such a good picture getting spoilt by a light infiltration... Anymore in the series ? Link to comment
uingee4ahg 0 Posted September 24, 2002 Maybe the light from the lamp is just a tad too harsh... unless of course, you wanted the viewers to squint. Link to comment
chuckchristiansen 0 Posted September 24, 2002 Just from a purely subjective point of view, without trying to figure out if it's technically the way it ought to be done or not, I really like the effect of the lamp. This photo reminds me of something you might see in a Snow White type story - here's the evil queen! As such, for me the lamp's rather bright yet sickly light casts a kind of evil haze over the whole image, as though the subject is radiating a sort of cold malevolent power. It would be very interesting to see the different effect a cleaner and more even light would have on the picture and compare that to this version. But for me, this works aesthetically. I don't know if this is anywhere close to what you wanted to capture with this picture, but I enjoyed what I got out of it. Link to comment
paolo1960 0 Posted September 24, 2002 The light on the left shoot too much and I don't like the green dominant. But it is an original shot. Link to comment
marcus_kraus 0 Posted September 25, 2002 It's perfect... Why no Shadows??? There flair in this image that would not come out with "better" lightning.. Nobody here reading "Surface" or simmilar? Have you never seen the shots taken with Sunlight reflections all over the image. In your opinions that would be a bad photo...but on the other hand..why do those show up in magazines? IMHO it is perfect...it doesn't need to be clear, sharp, "right exposed" to be a superb image... accidential lightning or not...IMO it's the best image in this folder. THIS IS GRAET...I LOVE IT. saybian.tv 0 Posted September 29, 2002 The green light casting in to the lense, gives a dusty feel to the room. Makes the setting feel more like a dwelling or cave than a setting. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted October 3, 2002 My eye just keeps going to the brightest spot, the light. I like the altered version better Link to comment
