Biblically simple and very "Russian". The man is walking through the snow to help the wearied horse. A long road ahead. Excellent B/Ws, Kostja. Regards. Blago

Thank you, Blago. The elder is Tajik mousafet wearing an old top coat over traditional oriental robe.

This photo appears to be one that could have been taken almost any time in the last 70 years or so, and is interesting just for that.

However, this photo also illlustrates a good technique for 'isolating the subject' from the background which is always useful for emphasis on the subject and to the creation of good photography -- take a photo in falling snow with low clouds -- foggy background through which one can see, but not too well.

Cropping appears about perfect for the photo/I'd like to see more 'stride' both in the man's and the horse's legs, indicating their foreward motion-- maybe the snow's too deep for the man's legs to show more than they do. I'd almost assume if he weren't 'posing' even slightly, he might be bent over a little more?

(It's a picky issue, but one I'm concentrating on in creating a presentation, so it interests me -- the stride or placement of legs in photography as an indicator of motion.)

Nice, effective photo with good tones throughout.

Regards,

I dont know Russia therefore I apretiate so much this photo, Aside fron the technical aspects that are so very good as John pointed (snow photos are allways tricky and difficult to take) it moves me, it looks real even if it is a little posed. There is a lot of humanity in it.

Thank you John! Thank you, Guillermo!

The elder was on the move. I had barely 5 seconds to get out for making the picture. I saw him through the windshield of our ancient UAZ452 jeep. The camera WAS set to B&W because I wasn't expecting an intersting landscape vista with the type of weather we had. The man didn't pose absolutely. He just squinted in my direction keeping on. He never stopped..

At the time, I'd try to male as many pictures as I could within the very limited amount of time there was. Wish I had had an SLR back then.

Guillermo! This is Tadjikistan, not Russia. Northern most tip of India is just 70 km from Tajikistan (not this place, though).

Thanks again, people, for coming by.

Regards,

Konstantin
