db1664878771 0 Posted June 7, 2005 BEAUTIFUL! I love the color, the clarity, the erie, peaceful feeling, the "monster" looming under the water in the foreground. Very nice! 7/7 Link to comment
southernman 0 Posted June 7, 2005 What is the cause of the lighting from the bottom? Very cool capture. T Link to comment
adam paine 0 Posted June 8, 2005 The light coming from the bottom of the image is from the street lights on the bridge I was on. A longer exposure allowed me to also capture movement in the water as well. AP Link to comment
srileo 0 Posted June 10, 2005 Adam, I cross the Chattahoochee everyday several times. You have forever altered the perception I have of this friendly little river. It looks positively dangerous here! I wonder if you have attempted capturing the fog/mist that settles on the river some evenings... Great work! sridhar Link to comment
pmj 6 Posted June 13, 2005 This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum. When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading. dhiren 0 Posted June 13, 2005 "A longer exposure allowed me to also capture movement in the water as well. AP" How long was the exposure ? Just wondering then why is the kayaker so sharp ? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 13, 2005 Cool (old guy response )! An actual original image by somebody who's got his technical act together! Pretty rare combination. In the portfolio I especially like the "Mud Sander." Djon Link to comment
dave_nitsche 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Dhiren, I think there is a bit of PS involved here. The boat looks placed in IMO. Is it Adam? Link to comment
alexhender 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Outstanding shot ! Like the color gradient in the water !!! Wish to have that kind of location in canada ;) COngrats 7/7 Link to comment
greg s 4 Posted June 13, 2005 Looks very saturated and I'm skeptical that it reflects reality. Please forgive if this is the way the river water actually appeared on that day... haven't seen anything like it before. If it can truly reflect blue like that... wow! :) Link to comment
dhiren 0 Posted June 13, 2005 Okay, after looking at the photograph for awhile now I feel, things don't look right to me. Kayak is out of proportion here, reflection looks unreal, the glow at the horizon doesn't appear in the reflection. I just don't know how to put/say this, but it would be a good idea if the photographer comes in front and explains the process. Link to comment
rjacksonphoto 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Hmmmm...certainly has nice colors. And the composition is good. I'm not sure why the background is blue and the foreground is red. The kayak/kayaker looks a little dark on my monitor. I'm not sure of the purpose of the underwater structure in the composition. The wake of the boat looks a little funny-- dare I say-- unnatural? Curious... Link to comment
catseyeweb 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Please don't take this wrong, I'm not trying to be arrogant, but I was looking at the reflection of the treeline in the water on the right side and comparing it to the actual treeline, and they don't appear to match. Is that correct? Link to comment
michael_j._kravit1 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Look, all in all a very nice composition and the colors are extraorinary. But let;s not delude ourselves. If this was a long exposure as Adam suggests, the water would NOT show as much movement and would in fact flatten out rather quickly. Remember, a waterfall show the frothy movement because the water is continually falling from the fall above. The Kayak would be very blurred, it is not that sharp, but is not blurred to the point where it shows movement. I don;t see the tree reflections as a major issue, but the fact remains this is a digitally manipulated image. No question about that. I am not saything this is bad, nor is it good, let;s just not delude our selves into thinking that this image is not based in truth. Link to comment
wkturnbull 0 Posted June 14, 2005 Not getting too much into the manipulated/not-manipulated, but I think maybe the answer to the reflections not matching is: words words words... ummm look at the attached pic, it's probably easier than me trying to explain what I mean..? sorry about the crude artwork! :) Link to comment
