bentes_world 0 Posted June 4, 2005 Trying to shoot lightnings gives the same feeling of excitement as when you shoot seagulls ... something like ... there it is....oh there's another one .. got it .... yuk.. too far away ... too fast ... oh, too bright ... oh, behind the clouds ... ha, think I got that one ... is it already over? colin carron 58,916 Posted June 4, 2005 Yikes, Bente! Well done amd I hope you were not standing under a tree at the time! Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted June 4, 2005 Colin ... no I didn't stand under a tree ... it was raining pretty much and I do not have very much courage ... so this is taking from inside the house ... has a good view out to some big open fields. Thanks for taking you time to comment. Francesco ... thank you very much!!!! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Great timing, Bente! I've never successfully captured lightning - at least nothing I'm pleased with. I am wondering why the background looks a bit splotchy? I also find the lower trees look odd. Not sure what's going on with that. However, it's still an awe-inspiring shot of nature at its most furious. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Teriffic bolt - wow ... I'd say the splotchy things are trees, wind and mist in the distance - our perspective can sure be altered at night during a rain and lightening storm - jaaa Link to comment
terry_mccully 0 Posted June 5, 2005 here it is.. and you got it.. and also have some detail on the ground too for a size comparison... I like this alot Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Thank you Igor for stopping by and commenting on my lightning storm. Kim and Ken .... thanks to you both too for finding the way to this one. This was my first attempt trying shooting lightnings. I got a lot without lightnings, many looking like they were taken in full daylight, some with just light on the clouds ... and some with lightnings of different quality. It was very hard to figure where the lightnings would show up ... they moved around all the time ... and of course it was hard to tell when they would appear ... so I put on the widest angle, F8 and the shutter tim e to 30 sec. Had a black paper to hold up in front of the lense .... counted that there were about 7 - 10 sec between each lightning ... removed the black paper from the lens on 6sec ... and was lucky a few times. The sploches are raindrops .. I think.... and I think a lightning photo is best with something as buildings, tall trees or other things to go with lightning to put in some relief. Unfortunately this place where I could take the photos only is a big flat field with about 1 km to the nearest building so not much there to make some relief. This pic is cropped and I'll show the original here. Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted June 5, 2005 ...and here is the same place in daylight to give an idea of how flat 'things' are around here. Not much to put things into relief. Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Thank you Terry ... glad you like it. Was fun to do and now I know a little more if I happen to shoot lightnings again. Link to comment
renny 0 Posted June 6, 2005 Fantastic! I have tried unsuccessfully to shoot lightening.... either I forgot my camera on the occasion it was best or I just missed the best display once I had it in hand.... so I'm still trying. Link to comment
MichaelChang 12 Posted June 13, 2005 Pitman, more remarkably, it's three strikes with one shot! Link to comment
