Congratulations on a beautiful shot, you have great eye for colors and composition. That being said, some critisism (that's why you posted it here, right?). Technical: top of the picture is out of focus, stoping down the aperture would've helped. Artistical: if this were an abstract *painting* it wouldn't work for many reasons, curb of the sidewalk is most obvious.

I think you should continue the theme, there's great potential, just don't stop here.

Thank you all for the warm response. I agree with Ed on that this is the kind of shot that looks best with maximum DOF. Gotta try to remember that next time. As for the comment on the artistical aspect, I'd have to say I think the curved curb adds a lot to the composition. As an entirely abstract image it wouldn't work, but I think it improves the composition as such. Any comments on this? I'm just a beginner and appreciate all kinds of feedback.

Wow, this is a cool shot! Well seen, well captured!

You are right, Dan, the curved curb is an important part of the composition and needs to be there. I also find it ok for the top to be out of focus, since it adds depth to the photograph. Maybe a bit more DOF would have helped, but if it was all tack sharp, the image would look more flat and two-dimensional.
