The sky lantern

lihwoei_lin

In ancient China, the sky lanterns were used to transmit messages about wartime or safety, especially people who lived in the mountains, which messages were not easily available. Nowadays, the Feast of Lanterns, one of the three famous festivals in China or Taiwan, people often make the sky lanterns and write their wishes on them, then ignite the tinders on the bottom of the lanters, thus you can see the lanterns fly upward slowly. In this picture, I use long exposure time to make long streams of light.

I think this photo has a lot of potential, however, it just has an unbalanced feel to it. I think the reason is becuse you can see a horizontal line in the back ground that slopes down from left to right and the people on the ground looks cut off at that angle as well. Have you tried adjusting the crop to tray and level it any any way? I think it would help and i would like to see it again if you do.

The horizon line was the spotlight, and the people on the left down were taking pictures, the people else were igniting the sky lanterns. The people there were rather chaotic, I just wanted to show the pupulous atmosphere there :) And though I cut some people down, I thought to show the vision on the sky was more important. Then the horizental line was okay, because I used the level bubble on the hotshoe:)
