This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum.

When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading.

Lovely capture, great colours, How many attempts did this take? How long did you have to wait?

I've enjoyed watching Francisco's work evolve over the past six months to his obtaining of shots like this.

He's working with what he's got, and obtaining some great results. Note that he's using a D70, which has an autofocus that often gets slammed for its lack of speed. Too, he's using the Sigma 50-500mm, a lens that DID receive a "Lens of the Year" award, but still - that's a wide-ranging zoom, and to be able to pluck (no pun intended) images so sharp like this without a prime lens, with that kind of OOF background is the result of a lot of hard work, a lot of planning and approach, and a lot of screw ups that needed an equation that would make it all come together.

It's hard enough to get one bird sharp, in focus, detailed, and with great color, but you managed to get two! Well done!

It's a beautiful picture, Francisco, but is there trouble in paradise? They are already looking outside their own little branch.

Felicidades por ganar La Foto de la Semana. Me gusta muchisimo.

Congrats! Lovely colors and total sharpness.

I see a tad of flash light reflected on their eyes.

Was flash used?

What a wonderful shot! One of finest I have seen here! Talk about preseverance, luck, timing, etc. etc. to get the two birds "posed" in such position!

The image is clinically sharp and excellent in all respect. But I would like to know whether the image was shot indoor or outdoor?

Congratulation Francisco,

Photographs of the week always generate different arguments and ideas there is nothing but words of admiration for this shot because is incredible.

Is almost like a studio shot someone said and is true you made a natural habitat an improvised studio where you can not manipulate light but you made most of it.

Un saludo

Alvaro

I particularly like the way the lighting accentuates the texture of the feathers. This makes the birds jump out against the out of focus background. The color of the background also contributes a great deal to the visual impact. Between the ruffled feathers of the one on the left and them looking away from each other it's easy to imagine they've had an argument. Adiing to Lannie's "Trouble in paradise," I suppose.

For those asking whether the photo was taken indoors or outdoors, the author says in the "details" tab says that his birds are shot in complete wilderness
