anne_morgan 0 Posted March 31, 2005 I was very happy to catch this shot an instant before she anded on the nesting box. Does her hidden face ruin the shot? Link to comment
jrbondy 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Not at all, nice timing just a little blur. Love it though.. Link to comment
royzart 0 Posted March 31, 2005 This is a shot of nesting behavior, and the fact that the face is hidden does not detract from it. If the bird were perched in a static pose, that would be a different matter. I will be pedantic and ornithological here and note that the bird is a male, not a female, The males prepare the nests. Thanks for posting these. As a member of the small local bluebird restoration crew, I am now really looking forward to seeing some pairs at our boxes in Connecticut. Link to comment
anne_morgan 0 Posted March 31, 2005 Thank you Roy for your comments. Ordinarily I too thought males prepared the nest. But the OTHER bird was CLEARLY the male, TONS more blue in the plumage and always standing guard. He would also drop in occasionally with a little snack for the female. However, I may have mistitled this - later this afternoon when I went back, I could clearly hear the hatchlings chirping inside the box; the birds, it seems, were in fact, maintaining the nest. Does the male build the nest and the female help in maintaining it? (I noticed last year too the female constructing the nest.) I'll post a photo of the male. Link to comment
royzart 0 Posted March 31, 2005 You're right. I just checked my own bluebird photos. Our northeastern bluebird females aren't as blue as yours in South Carolina. Link to comment
watermark_of_merni 14 Posted March 31, 2005 I like seeing the wingspan and the blue and grays. I like your natural capture here. Well done ! -Merni Link to comment
alinux33 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Simply wonderful Anne. Unfortunately there is a little blur on the wing edges, but the opening of wings are just great! Kind regards! Link to comment
