and especially comments appreciated. Thanks!

This is one of those photos that tells an entire story. I love it. Main criticism would be to maybe clone out the seagulls, they draw the eye away from the main subjects and interrupt the flow of the image.

It's not easy to find some fault with this image. Excellent light and DOF, and very easy to be supported with a story. The juxtaposition between the sitting man and the children playing in the running waters is beautiful. Who said the street shots lack aesthetics? :-)Good job, Davin. Regards. Blago

I also like the story coming out of this photo. Beside the light spot on the fountain right next to the old man, this photo is really good aesthetically.

Could use just a 'tad' help, in my opinion to make it sparkle even more. I would consider 'selecting' the boys after blowing each up large in Photoshop using Navigator or Control +++, to make each huge for selection purposes.

You might consider using the magnetic selection tool to outline the boys individually, then slightly lighten them, adjust the conrast, and see if that adds to the photo at all.

As it is now, their brown skin competes with the white seagulls (and the male subject is wearing a white striped shirt, garnering so much attention).

But slightly lightening the boys, you have less to worry about their competing with the seagulls or having to consider 'cloning' them out, which I consider blasphemy in a street shot, unless you're going to transform it into an advertising billboard or some such.

This is a case of 'watch your background' about which I am writing a huge presentation, as its success depends as much on the foreground with the background and neither stands so well independently e.g. they are mutually interdependent.

Well done. If you do try my 'enhancements' and they work, please let me know.

Regards.

I really appreciate all your comments. I agree the seagulls are a little distracting, but I don't like to manipulate my images too much. Just a personal preference!

...the fountain!!! Sounds like Hemmingway as this picture recals me is story telling style. This is a great shot. And when you tell a story, I believe it is important to have a beginning and an end. If you try to say everything at the same time, your missing the point. Your picture is telling a story the way it should be... in my humble opinion of course. You first see an old man, looking at young people, maybe wondering about is own childhood memories. Than you see all those young people, running over the fountain, just being happy. The fact that the old man is wearing a white shirt brings our look back to him. Only then we realise that he is probably waiting for his grand children, because of the tiny pair of shoes beside him. In a way, the fact that the attention is more on the man because he is in focus (and because of the color of is shirt an his position in the picture) makes me almost feel like everything he is looking at is almost happening in his head, only the pair of shoes makes the bridge between imagination and reality. You see, this is what I see in this picture. You made me feel something, thank you for that beautiful story!!! I hope everybody else will take the time to find his own story in this beautiful picture!

It reminds me one very old Rolling Stones' song:

"It is the evening of the day,

I sit and watch the children play.

Smiling faces I can see, but not for me,

I sit and watch as tears go by."
