Erin, you have caught the spray from the racer really well and the shot has good colours and a sense of action. You must have had a fairly high shutter speed to get the detail in the spray like that!

Thanks Colin, yes a high shutter speed indeed,

4000th sec at f4. Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX HSM with a 1.4 convertor,

(448mm on a D60).

Hand held, and manual focused on the buoy.

As an engineer you will appreciate the fine work that went into the design and performance of this boat.

It could turn right angles at incredible speeds, this can be seen from the spray behind the marker buoy, at 90 degrees to the present direction of the boat and still airborne when the boat has right angled and is accelerating away.

It custom was built for a world class British racing boat driver by a local company, and this image is from when he came out to Picton, New Zealand to pick it up and and gave a public demo as he test piloted it before taking it home with him, to the UK.

The professionalism of this driver was top class, he had reflexes like a fighter pilot. Pretty close to that course marker at very high speed.

He liked his new boat!

Ah yes, now you have pointed it out I can see the shape of the spray plume. That is a tight turn! I sometimes see people racing these things on the old docks in London so maybe one day I'll see this guy and the racer in person.
