This lady became a customer after seeing her friend Milena in my

portfolio on my site. I think this is a nice capture what do you

think - Comments and ratings welcome.

Gosh guys thanks for the kind words, Jayme of course you know your nice words mean alot as we have gone back and forth over such a long time. I flipflop between thinking I am good and not knowing if I am just being biased because the image is mine and I know the person and I think its a wonderful shot of this person - like its nothing what they look like at work. All these outside 3rd party comments from those here on Photo.net really encourage me and lead me to think I am progressing in what is now my total passion. Not to mention when I showed the shots to the lady who commissioned them she nearly started drying righ there in her office because she had never seen such a beautiful shot of herself.

Marlin... thanks so much for stopping in to look and rate and leave your comments - it is very much appreciated. As you will see from my comment - yes sometimes I think I am getting good other times I am not so sure - I have been at this now around 7 months and I dont know if I am doing well or I should expect more from my time - or should I say spare time - I still have a day job and no studio. Thanks for your kind words.

This is a very good portrait. Studio finished.

When I was young I loved the photos from the studio. Now that I know how, I favored a naked photo finished, no make-up at all. Thanks for sharing.

By the way, I'm interested the making of your

posted portrait. The skin tones are impressive.

I notice that with portraits that some will comment on the model...merits of beauty. The point here is that it is your photo...your work. A good portrait is just that, despite the attributes of the subject.

Of course a beautiful woman will get many more favorable responses.

So, my point is that this is great. Very very well executed. The lighting, the cropping and pose are all excellent. It is your photo that is beautiful.

Thanks to everyone for your ratings, kind words and your appreciation of my work. I am of the opinion that it is the best shot I have taken in my 8 months so far as a serious photographer.

Sally, the skin softening I have started trying is one I picked up in a book called "The Photoshop CS Book" by Scott Kelby who is the editor for Photoshop User Magazine. Others here, including Jayme and Sacha. I was not able to get the same results that they did so I kept looking.

Linda you are 100% right. Some months ago I came to the same realization that I was doing that - sometimes rating the model more than the technical aspects. Agreed, a beautiful woman does get the more favourable comments & ratings. Thank you for your encouraging comments.

Gerry, you are quickly becoming one of the top portrait photographers on the site. My jealousy knows no bounds (here I am still trying to get better at the "street" stuff). Great work. Keep outdoing yourself.

Thanks very much for your extremely kind words - I am flattered. I don't know about one of the top on the site :) but I am delighted to see the progression in the results I am getting from the work. I now spend all my time taking and processing shots whereas I used to spend most of it here :) The downside of that is I get less and less time to look at other peoples stuff and rate it. I took another look at your portfolio and you have so many memorable images - gentleman outside the store with his back to the camera, the clothes on the dummys outside the stall - you are just as talented at what you are focused on. I am surrounded with books as I try to learn this all better. I never intended to focus on people - everything I have submitted except this last one are people who posed for me in return for a cd. They are all friends. Ok gotta run and get back to my day job. Thanks again for visiting and leaving such nice comments +/rating :)

I just love the lightning and the short DOF in this one. The model has a very good expression on her face.

Thanks for the great comment and rating. Especially for me since you are so talented at capturing people. I went back for yet another peek at your portfolio - there is that fantastic looking woman with the two tone hair. Nice to see you got to work with her again.
