michael_hansen3 0 Posted May 7, 2005 Very unique photo! Jay, I am very curious as to how you did this without using IR film. Did you set the D70 to B&W and attach the R72 filter, or was it more involved? It also looks like you colorized the trees in an image editor, correct? I would like to give this a try! Thanks for your thoughts. MH Link to comment
jay_philbrick 0 Posted May 7, 2005 Glad you like the effect. The image was taken with the Hoya R72 IR filter attached. In order to focus, you must focus and lock the focus before putting on the filter because it blocks all visible light (I think). So, have the shot composed and focused then put the filter on. Play with the exposures to get something that works, something around 1-2 seconds at f8, iso 200. Just play with it. White balance must be custom set to something like green grass in bright sunlight. Then in Photoshop lots of work in different layers with masks. I use a lot of adjustments to different channels using the channel mixer adjustment while masking out areas I dont want effected. Also some layer work for hue/saturation and more for color balance. By combining different layers using these adjustments you can get some very striking results. I hope this helps. Good luck with your IR efforts. Link to comment
