I think that this is a pretty appropriate DOF actually. You got the first few little guys sharp as a tack (i'm surprised at how good an image is from a non-slr. looks like I've got a lot to learn about the powershot!), and the slightly less sharp rear works great here. adds to the idea that there are lots more on the way. Nice work

This is a very good photo, DOF is OK for this composition. They are some kind of polistes.
