This is a relatively new subject matter for me and I'm curious as to

how it came out. I was going for more dramatic lighting than I usually

use. This was photographed using black seamless, two monolights and a

reflector.

Thanks!

Hey there,

Since I've posted this photo I've had five ratings, two of which have been 1/1. That's fine; if people don't like it I don't have a problem with that. But I would very much like to know why - if you feel the need to rate it so low I'd really appreciate what needs to be changed or improved. And of course positive comments are welcome as well.

Thanks,

I like it very much Pat. A bunch of low ratings for male nudes are a given. There are men who want to look at male nudes and bash them at the same time. This is nicely lighted, and a nice subject. The pose seems slightly awkward, but all and all I like it very much.

Hello,

I want to photographe "nudes" as well. I look around on this site a lot. What I see is that a lot of nudes get ratings between 1/1 and 7/7. I think that some people just don't like nudes. They rater give ratings on the subject then on the picture.

By the way, I like this one very much, the expression, the pose of the body, ... nice!

What to be changed? Change the model. If it were a female, you'll get more decent ratings. This is not my suggestion, but just a feeling. Perhaps not fair, but this is a male dominated world and they don't want to be seen naked.

being a guy, i must say, i prefer to see women naked, but i agree with what others have said: this is a male dominated forum, and i've seen many male nudes get very low ratings while female nudes of comparable quality get much higher ratings. that doesn't make much sense, as this is supposed to be a critique forum. despite my personal taste, i think this shot is done quite well.

Well - the "problem" with this picture is not technical. The light is very nice. However - it lacks an interesting face & body expression. It looks stiff and without a "story"... I think one of the most important parts of a picture is the motive... If the motive looks interesting - the picture is interesting. And if you don?t have a nice motive - play with the lights & shadows. Good luck!

Dear Pat male nude images are very hard to perform totally different as whe you work with a female model. Maybe is because we dont have many examoles to look at and the few that available are almost ever around big muscle guys performing forced poses.

Think a good body features male model is obviously necesary to catch the eye of the viewer but his attitude and cooperation to explore new poses the clue.

Think you have all is needed to perform outstanding male nude images, good luck!!! http://www.photo.net/shared/community-member?user_id=749619

The pose is what intrigues me, but not necessarily in a good way. I keep wondering what his feet are doing. It does look a bit awkward. I think if his left leg were perhaps more diagonal to the camera (I hope you know what I mean) it would help his stance and compliment the look he is giving with his face.
