Nathan, there is a powerfull expression in the photo, but imo he background is intefering too much with the main objects (the runners). Maybe blur the background a bit? (4/5)

Use a wider aperture so you have the faster shutterspeed and blurred background.

good shot...good timing...the background is not good for cross country. In future, you should position yourself a bit better. I like the shot.

man.... i would LOVE to see the raiders really kick the patriots' ass...

I have been doing a bit of sports photography for work lately, and I think this is an awesome shot that I would be proud of. The only thing is that it is a bit out of focus. I noticed you shot at 180th. I think with a faster shutter speed, it would have been awesome. Play around with it a little and you will see a huge difference in sharpness. Great capture though!

Having just spent a season photographing my daughter's cross-country meets, and in part with a 10D, I can really relate to this photo. Not an easy shot to get. I like how the two runners' bodies are in nearly identical positions. You might try removing the wrappers on the grass; I don't think they add to the image.
