this butterfly (1.5 to 2 cms long = 1 to 1.5 inch) is moving the

same way as humming birds, at an unbelievable speed, from flower to

flower, staying hardly a second at the same place...not easy to

shot, which explain the not perfect focus...apologize!

can anyone give me his english name ? in french it is "morosphinx"...

thanks for your critics

Hi Jean Pierre, in English the name for this is a 'hummingbird hawk-moth'. Nice picture (I'd agree that it looks to be a bit over-sharpened).

You are extremely lucky. Seeing them is a rare treat, let alone taking a nice photo like this. Most of them are very elusive, coming out at sunset.

Les and Daryl you are absolutely right, it is oversharped as I can see it now...I used a LCD screen when I posted this image, not my regular one, now I see the bad result...no excuse...too late and too bad...

C'est donc possible ! Mon DSC-P8 me trahit sur ce type de sujet : pas vraiment adapte :) et impossible de realiser une photo nette malgre des dizaines de tentatives dans mon jardin. BRAVO pour la performance !

Jean-Pierre, on my last summer vacation (in beautiful France), I have tried several times to have this beautiful insect photographed. In vain; it was much too fast for my camera (shutter lag). Thanks for showing and providing us with the name of this beautiful and amazing creature.
