Thank you Creg, I did cropped the left and the bottom abit, so I 'll experiment with different crops and other shots I have from the same scene... much appreciated, best regards

this is the original of this shot but i remember i had others somewhere as well with more left part...

I must say though, that my intention was to emphasise white = hot within a cooler context of shadow and colours

What a fantastic image!

(I like so much that does not matter to me that the whole tile roof is not seen) 7/7

Wonderful, I would like to be there...

Thanks for sharing the beauty of the moment.

thank you Marta... Unfortunately I do not accept the increasigly repeated silly mentality of 'rate low and run' from whoever found this for 2/2... I 'm thinking taking it down because the currently pointless rating system has began to seriously suck... it's the same story: my last two photos got from 7/7 to 2/2 and from 6/6 to 1/1 and only one constructive comment so far.. Nonsense!

PS: Anyone who wants my critique, (judge about me from my work and comments elsewhere) please email me or contact me here and I'd be pleased to say my opinion.

All the same I am inclined to invite people to offer a critique. I am tired of the chaos of people who hardly contribute anything to others' work, or might not have the knowledge and personal interest to critique in the first place.

I think this is a very good rendering, and that you accomplished your purpose very well. really enjoy the composition -- the curve of the building, the light to dark, the white of the building and the blue of the sea, are lovely. i'm intrigued by the original because the ground (sand?) adds something to the summer image, but you'd have to work on the highlights to avoid them being blown out.

Thank you Ben, honestly I'll think about this (especialy the highlights issue - what would be your practical advice?.. ) and I'm so glad having your insights and analysis here. Best regards my friend. All the best.

highlights are really tough. my best practical advice -- assuming you have photoshop, create a duplicate layer of the entire photo, then create an adjustment layer for the background in curves or levels and darken, dull the white; then erase from the background copy where the highlights are the worse; then go back to adjustment layer for the background, now that you can see it, and refine your changing of the highlights; then flatten. there are blending techniques between two layers that i don't really understand, so this is what i do most of the time. the burning tool is okay, but its a little blotchy and cannot pull out remaining detail as well as using levels or curves. when you are shooting, you can underexpose and do the reverse. if you shoot in RAW on a Canon, you have options to alter exposure before converting to TIFF that are useful too, but too much work for me. i usually take a jpg, save my work in tiff.

From the thumbnail I wasn't sure what this was about - it seemed to be just a photograph of the side of the building. What a pleasant surprise to open it up and find the person sitting there enjoying a fine ocean view. It all made sense.

Here's a radical crop suggestion: crop from the top to about where the beam intersects with the edge of the frame on the left. A panoramic image with an emphais on vertical lines results. I think it retains the message while being more graphically coherent.
