vietnam photo 0 Posted September 16, 2004 Is the black cloud useful for the photo? (I submitted a cropped b&w version for critique earlier but re-submitted this one). Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted September 16, 2004 Cuong, the image is very nice indeed. Personally, I would crop part of the cloud. It has no interesting structure, it is mostly a grey area. Best regards, Peter Link to comment
vietnam photo 0 Posted September 16, 2004 I tried to capture and present my feeling that moment. We were in the bay even though a very big storm or rain was pouring. It was a relief that the storm passed by and the sky lifted up. I thus like the fact that a fisherman (or woman) looking up at the sky as if he was welcoming the break. On one hand, I wanted to leave the cloud in to emphasize the feeling for a storm passing by. On the other hand, it is contentless as you wrote. See my attempt to crop and convert it B&W. Cropping it carelessly does greatly change the ambience of the photo, I think. Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted September 17, 2004 Cuong, I like this crop better, but I liked the color version more, the light and color were special. You are probably right about the atmosphere the cloud left in your submitted crop (I believe the feeling is still there in your new crop). Yet, you may get different opinions on leaving the cloud from other people. Anyway, the dark cloud area probably helped during exposure to bring out more detail in the foreground, which would likely be dark had all the sky been bright. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Best regards, Peter Link to comment
vietnam photo 0 Posted September 17, 2004 Peter, I think you are right. I resubmitted this photo again. I like the light color too and am trying to deal with that dark cloud. I guess I had a fixation with rectangular that I am hesitant to transform into square :-). Link to comment
