stmpjmpr 0 Posted August 27, 2001 Technically, the picture seems fine. From an aesthetic point-of-view, I wish that the girl was doing something other than standing there looking posed. Also, the first thing I asked myself when I saw the picture was "Why does she have a balloon in her mouth?" I also found the cropping to be odd; I'd like to see less of the wall above her head. I like the light and colors. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted August 28, 2001 Yes I like the light & colour too, but wondered if you had shot in landscape format, you might have included the rest of her shadow & made more of the composition that way. Link to comment
nomad 0 Posted August 28, 2001 The picture might look better if you were closer to her eye height. The way it is taken I get the feeling that I am looking down. Link to comment
sihirlitur.com 0 Posted August 28, 2001 This photo was taken in 1982 in Eastern Turkey. The life was poor in that part of the country this girl was already afraid of my camera and the baloon in her mouth was maybe the most beautiful toy she had. I might get closer but people living there might not like this because they are not used to photographers etc. Thanks for all comments. H.O. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted September 9, 2001 Beautiful photo - I find your explanation very touching indeed; sometimes in the West we forget the very existence of poverty (though we see it on our own doorstep each day.) Even if the balloon was a "posed prop" your eye told you the image needed BLUE. It did, that it happened to be one of her few toys makes the image more moving. I wonder what she's doing now, 19 years later, perhaps children of her own - I hope she's okay. Regards. Link to comment

pete w 0 Posted December 8, 2001 To capture proper exposure and the use of light takes someone who understands light and thier equiptment. To capture and portray emotions and feelings as strong as the real life instance then, now and forever takes a Truly Great Photographer. Sir,you are that photographer! Thank you Pete Link to comment
