richard_daw 0 Posted August 25, 2004 One of my favourite arctic pics taken on a recent research cruise to the Chukchi Sea of the North coast of Alaska. Let me know what you think! Rich. Link to comment
richard_milner2 0 Posted August 25, 2004 My eye was drawn to this but there is something which fails to satisfy me. It's to do with the general featurelessness of the scene (very flat, minimal colour palette) combined with the amount of tiny chaotic detail in the broken up ice, which confuses the eye. I think this is an image which will work better at a much higher level of enlargement than is possible within the confined of Photo.net. A big blow-up would allow the tiny detail to make a better contribution to the overall impact, whilst increasing the feeling of space and desolation. It's definitely a good picture but the small screen isn't a good place to look at it. Link to comment
streetlevel 0 Posted August 25, 2004 but I love it...the subdued color pallette and abstract nature of the broken ice is really powerful (even within the confines of a computer screen). I agree that this image is ideal for a large scale enlargement (provided the resolution holds up). I love the diagonal crack, and pockets of the teal water welling up on the left...they really draw me into the image in search of more detail. Well done. 6/6 Link to comment
