Guest Guest Posted August 12, 2004 What is it about mountains that make people want to take pictures of them? Dunno, but I get the same urge, but I don't indulge it this well. Link to comment
swenson 0 Posted August 12, 2004 Great landscape, I really like the crispness of the image. The elements work well together and the green gives anice contrast. Link to comment
pdoyle 0 Posted August 12, 2004 One of the better photos of this lake that I've seen. You've done a nice job controlling the shadowed areas. Link to comment
mario_vodopivec 0 Posted August 13, 2004 Truly exceptional, can you please tell us where this place is? Link to comment
nick_s 0 Posted August 13, 2004 Mario... this place is Moraine Lake very near to Lake Louise in Banff National Park (and about 40km from the town of Banff). The site is heavily over-photographed, yet I too couldn't resist taking some shots of the place when I was there for the second time in two years about a month ago. However, Greg's rendition is far better than anything I've done, and most I've seen. Greg... what time of day was this photo taken? Given the fairly long shadows, I would guess within an hour or two of sunrise. Also, where did you take this photo from? I know there is a hill at this end of the lake, but when I searched for a spot to take a photo, I had a difficult time finding any location where foreground trees didn't interfere. Perhaps that's why the photo seems to zoom in on the back half of the lake? Finally, what shutter speed did you use? The lake doesn't appear to be giving a "mirror" relection, yet it appears very smooth... this would suggest a choppy lake that has been calmed through a fairly long exposure... yet this can't be because the clouds are sharp. carsten_ranke 0 Posted August 14, 2004 Good idea to put this sky in, and great work on color and tonal range. The image you posted before is improved a lot ! Excellent landscape. Regards, Carsten (BTW, the grey frame doesn`t enhance the image, for my taste. A minor point, and of course a matter of taste) Link to comment

yannik_hay 1 Posted October 5, 2008 Splendid view and achievment. The details, the colours and the control light/shadows very well done. To answer Walter's question, we have the urge to capture mountains because of their majesty, the power of the planet they represent. They are so commanding. They also represent stability and protection. I love myself hiking to capture their majestic essence. Cheers! Link to comment
