I think these are hard to do well without unusual lighting - and you seem to have gotten a pretty flat day! You might try more contrast? Please forgive me in advance if you don't like this variation!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Hi Lee, I think your variation with greater contrast is very interesting. You are right in that the lighting was quite "flat". This picture was taken right before sunset, front lit. But in some way, this flatness reminded me of the quietness and peace of this particular location at the remote tip of the island - something more of a personal connection than asthetics. But I will try to experiment with Photoshops and see.
