Is this another neigh sayer?

I like the out of focus background, just enough detail to imply an elegant setting, quite appropriate for the subject matter, classic game, classic setting. I also like the low angle of view and the placement of the chess piece on the 2/3 line (left to right). I find very little not to like about this picture, well done.

I'd say this is an "elegant" shot but the horse looks like he's about to burst into song - something from Disney, maybe! While it won't ever be somber, I still like it a lot. Perhaps that horse's silly grin is part of the appeal.

I agree with the Disney bit, not sure if that makes this picture better or worse though.

Great lighting & angle. Would have liked just a touch more light on the near side of the face, but thats a small nit. Great shot.
