This man was working the soil in this Rice terrace by Hand,(foot

actually). It had been lightly raining on and off all day. When we

drove near enough to take the photo,we stopped the car, just as the

sun broke behind the clouds at the top of the photo. I had sun rays

for only a few seconds.I appreciate any and all comments on all my

photos.Thank you

This is a beautiful photo. I am not too sure about the composition, but I can't see any obvious alternative anyway, and this particular one seems to work. The upper part of the photo is a little weird. While the sunrays are excellently portrayed in a grainy style, this cloud on the top left turns out like a smudge. I don't want to be the technical nazi telling you that it's badly printed, or wrong choice of film, or over-contrasted.. It could have been just fine, if it fitted more with the appearance of the rest of the photo. As it is now, it makes you think that the grain and contrast has been cranked up in just a part of the photo - it just doesn't fit. Have you tried to 'resuce' this photo in photoshop by manipulating specific regions? Without having seen the original it's hard to tell whether it was a good or bad idea. Nevertheless, give that the composition and subject are interesting, I have the hunch that you sort of ruined part of the photo in post-processiong. That being said, I will reiterate that even with its technical flaws, it's still a very nice photo.

It is a very hard photo to print ,even in a darkroom .The sunlight in the top of the print is very intense.I tried cropping the print to the top of the mountian ,but then the sunray's come out of nowhere. In the darkroom you can use a calendar instead of a timer to burn the clouds in . I tried reducing the contrast when developing the neg by using the developer in a 1 to 3 ratio, and that helped. The problems with burnng it down in photo shop is that there are no midtones to burn and If you burn highlights it goes flat. I am sure there is way to do it in layers,I just don't know how to do it. Thanks for the comments.

what a great photograph, the massive black balanced out by the foreground figure, really a treat to find this one, great work.
