unohuu 1 Posted July 22, 2004 The main subject is exquisitely rendered in tonality and DOF. The angle is somewhat different but perhaps that is part of the appeal of this image. The hightlights in the dress itself are too bright and detract from the overall theme of the image. Link to comment
tony georgiadis 0 Posted July 22, 2004 I agree about the highlights it's distracting, but the photo is so strong that I forget about them. Link to comment
john falkenstine 1 Posted July 24, 2004 I have looked at this image several times. Yes, its a beautiful girl. But..this image has been heavily reworked. The dress is shows effects of overworking the image and is now completely burned out. (Not good) Many details in the face have been smoothed out and the exposed shoulder is also heavily reworked. I have the feeling that the original image "as taken" is probably better than what I'm seeing here. My recommendation would be to NOT use some tools in whatever image processing software you're using for an extended period of time and just post the images... Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 24, 2004 John Falkenstine, you are missing the whole point. The goal here is to use manipulation and not to practice photography. The idea is to take this or any other photograph and turn it into something you cannot produce with the sharp detail of a camera lens and to ?create? a painting effect on a photograph. I absolutely agree with the dress? hot spot issue. The shoulder doesn?t bother me as much. I think the manipulation is incredible. I too would like to see the original. But as far as this computer work is concerned, I think it is done with amazing results. I love the brush strokes on her hair and the dark and rich tone of the eyes and eyebrow/lashes? lines. I like the direct, calm gaze. Link to comment
randall paul 0 Posted July 24, 2004 I think this photograph although worked merits a little more indepth critique. I disagree strongly on the hot spot on the dress as it adds an etherial form to the overall composition THe skin tone qualities are simply beautiful and obviously well thought out. The subject mood for this application is perfect. I would say that anyone not liking this photo and the artistic flow behind it is either jeolous or with out dimensional depth. I agree Falkenstine has completely missed it. This is simply an impressive peice of art. Link to comment

lucas_jarvis 0 Posted July 25, 2004 I think the touch up work you've done is amazing! I would like to do this myself. Is there a particular forum for issues like airbrushing techniques? Link to comment
john falkenstine 1 Posted July 25, 2004 Sorry, I don't "miss points" If that is the technique you are after, it is still in need of major corrections. What we are seeing here is gross and visible overuse of some digital tools to the detriment of the image. Link to comment
jespdj 0 Posted July 25, 2004 Nice portait. It looks like an airbrush painting instead of a photo. The fingers on the left side are distracting. Link to comment
