billangel 9,671 Posted July 22, 2004 This might have been considered a controversial image back in the 1970's, but times change and so do people's preoccupations. I thought I would post it though, to see it might evoke some interest in the allusions or issues that are being referred to in a purely symbolic manner. Link to comment
billangel 9,671 Posted July 22, 2004 That's an interesting observation, different than the associations I had thought about. I was really thinking along more benign lines in creating the image, i.e the Nixon Medallion represents the Establishment, the opium pipe the "Counter Culture", and the plant the "protect the natural environment" movement. breathlessconni 0 Posted June 17, 2005 oooh, I like that. It's also interesting that the fabric you used as a backdrop appears to be denim... the staple of American culture... Link to comment
billangel 9,671 Posted June 18, 2005 Interesting observation about the fabric, as denim "bell bottoms" were one of the symbols of the hippie movement, and were popular to wear at the same time that Nixon was President. Nixon, of course, was considered to represent the antithesis of the hippie movement. I had not considered the association of the fabric's type with political conflict (Nixon versus the Hippies) until you posted your comment. Link to comment
