b_rd_lindqvist 0 Posted July 6, 2004 New York was surprisingly empty on the 5th of July. Maybe it was because of yesterday night's celebrations, or maybe because of the temperature; 32 degrees C (90 F) and an almost unbearable air humidity. I walk into the McDonald's on Broadway next to Ground Zero, and when I exit shortly after, the rain is pouring down, accompanied by loud crashes of thunder. Most people are seeking shelter under storefronts, as am I when these two women come running across the street, laughing. I feel that I have captured the moment pretty good, but you had to be there for the atmosphere. And to the two running across the street, if you ever see this picture, thanks for being there at that time. Link to comment
john_schur 0 Posted July 6, 2004 I think I would crop a little tighter. But, I like it as is. Link to comment
nino1 0 Posted July 6, 2004 Great shot, IMO; gives perfectly the sense of the scene and the almost lonely colour of the umbrella emphasize the scene. Link to comment
jeff_kravitz 0 Posted July 6, 2004 First let me say I love the picture. I work a few blocks from where you took it (you were down the block from century 21 if I am right on your location) The only thing I would change is maybe brightening the woman's face a little. It seems a little dark. And after hearing that they were laughing, it would change the mood of the photo to more playful in nature. Link to comment
b_rd_lindqvist 0 Posted July 7, 2004 Jeff, thanks for your comment. I tried making the picture brighter, and discovered that the woman's face isn't showing at all, because her hair is in the way. Otherwise, your idea is good, and I agree with it. Link to comment
venicia_l 0 Posted July 7, 2004 . . . that you were able to grab the shot under these conditions! I love how muted color can become so bright in this kind of light.Ah, how I miss summer weather in New York. NOT!Did the passing of the storm result in better weather or just make things more steamy?VL Link to comment
b_rd_lindqvist 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I left town just a few hours after that, but when I left, the weather was clear, but warm and humid. Link to comment
