Guest Guest Posted August 11, 2001 Double 8 because of the composition: unfortunately, the rocks and the sky are in competition (question of light and maybe colors, I think). Link to comment

catherine_horey 0 Posted August 12, 2001 I like the soft, muted colors in this picture. Well done! Link to comment
joe_photo 6 Posted August 12, 2001 I think the combination is just right, almost like the rocks are "Waiting for the Sun". Has anyone ever taken a bad shot at Mono Lake? Link to comment
denise_duhamel 0 Posted August 12, 2001 Wonderful lighting and composition. Very well done. Rocks look like sea creatures! 8/8 Link to comment
chjohnson 0 Posted August 12, 2001 Exceptional colors and composition. Certainly not a "typical" Mono Lake shot. My only question is the choice of aperture setting. Did you not have a tripod available? I am just wondering why f1.8 instead of f16 or f22 which are more typical for landscape shots. Link to comment
lou_erbisen 0 Posted August 12, 2001 Sweetness of colors is contrasting with sharpness of rocks. Very good idea. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted August 12, 2001 Fabulous colours & textures. The rocks are positioned well in the frame. I would be more than happy with a result like this! Link to comment
veerendra_chirala 0 Posted August 12, 2001 Chris, I love that pic. I like how the clouds on the RHT corner balance the tufa formation on LHB corner and the awesome colors. I have some Mono Lake pics of my own in my portfolio but not as good as yours. Carl, I think probably Chris is just mentioning the type of lens when he says "Canon 50mm f1.8" and probably not the aperture he took the pic at. Link to comment
chris_venhaus 49 Posted August 12, 2001 Carl: I used a 50mm f1.8 lens, but the aperture was actually f5.6 (used a hyperocal with COC of 2.5). I had to use a relatively large aperture to "freeze" the clouds which were hauling butt... I shoot most of my landscapes at f5.6 or f8 to freeze the clouds and water as much as possible. Sorry for the consusion. Link to comment
yang 0 Posted August 13, 2001 Very beautiful scene! I am just wondering if you've got another shot to the right. If yes, I can imagine the stiched (panorama-like) picture from the two may look even better. Or, how about using wideangle lens, say 28mm? Just would like to see more from the beautiful clouds on the right. Link to comment
toni martin 0 Posted December 12, 2001 I think the combination is just right here also. The only thing I wish were different, is that the opening in the sky were not as large and blue/white. Great details on the rock formations. Link to comment
birds so fine 0 Posted February 24, 2002 I gave a nine for originality because I have a huge amount of respect for the landscape photographer finding the unique perspective and being there at the exact time for the best results. I gave a nine for aesthetics, and was thinking of giving you a ten, because this has form, texture, color, interest and playfullness, classic compositional excellence, and IMPACT IN EVERY DETAIL OF THE IMAGE. fred_j._lord 0 Posted July 31, 2002 I would give it a higher score if the levels were a bit lower and the cropping just slightly modified. I hope this sample of what I mean is acceptable. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted September 30, 2002 I find the colors a bit pale here. I'd like this darker. Never mind about the details in the rocks imo. Regards. Link to comment
