srspears 0 Posted April 25, 2004 Your thoughts please on the originality and overall quality of this photo. Manipulation included cloning out the number "22" on the side of the bird house and some purple martin's which were chasing the female, normal cropping and a little punch to the contrast. arniemilowsky 0 Posted April 25, 2004 Great focus, capture and shallow depth of field. Title is also perfect. Link to comment

mark lucas 0 Posted April 25, 2004 Think this is the Eastern Bluebird (sialia sialis) Link to comment
srspears 0 Posted April 25, 2004 This is indeed the Eastern Bluebird. Taken at Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, Maryland. I have a couple of other shots of this pair at the box in my folder. I found a box with nest, without an attending adult. I figured they were out on their morning feed, so I set up the camera and waited. Link to comment

srspears 0 Posted April 26, 2004 Thanks all for the comments. I think Chris K. got it backwards though, there was much more luck than skill. I can't really tell you how long I was at this box. Several hours total probably. I went early (not early enough) and stayed till around noon. I was shooting other things, but this box had the majority of my attention. But in that time, I can tell you that I photographed two white-tailed deer leaping across the cornfield, 3 osprey flying around the silo their nest was on (3.. she says scratching her head!) an adult Bald Eagle fly through the corner of my len's reach, and what I think was probably a Harrier Hawk checking out the area adjacent to the tree line. I never did get over near the pond areas to see if I could get into position to shoot Geese and probably a fair number of sandpipers and some species of stilt. So all in all, I had a blast that day. Heaven, pure heaven. Link to comment
chris_kuettner 0 Posted April 27, 2004 I stand by my comment... If you weren't skillful(and patient), you wouldn't have been ready. I'm looking forward to more! Link to comment

bob_paden 0 Posted April 27, 2004 This is an excellent image, Stephanie! I'm not always one for bird pictures but this really is special! I like the action, movement in the wings and the overall DOF. Nice going! :) Link to comment
