An old one this. I photographed it in full flight then desaturated the background with

a little blur added. If you think this is easy, I challenge you to try it! Thanks for the

comments!

Really nice effect. Would be interested to know how u shot the bee. I guess it's not the original background

As always a perfect picture, I remember this one, with little stripes/lines in the front of his legs. Or am I wrong.

I know how difficult this is. I have a few bees hovering in my folder but none as good as this one. This takes patience, good skills, good timing and a bit of luck. By the time you press the shutter, the bee may change position - they are not very cooperative models. Capturing a bee flying is much more difficult than capturing them on a flower. Good capture, good exposure, good job.

Checked out your Website for the technique you used. My technique was similar but I don't have a manual over-ride for my auto-focus. I staked out a flower that I could focus on and I had to depress the shutter half-way at a point where I was anticipating the bee's position and kept holding the shutter half-way until the bee moved to the position - not the best way to do it but I have to work with the limitations. You have to be very patient, very close and shoot lots of images. It took me over 60 images also to get the 2 I posted (actually, well over 150 before I learned how to anticipate and compensate for the camera limitations).

Mr.Lubow is right (unless he is a little bit agressive in his comment) But, Yes We want to see the unaltered, Raw picture... The real Capture, the 1/1000 of a Second you snaped and brought to an Unique moment, even if it's not dynamicly/technicaly perfect. I just took a dried-dead bee on the window seal this morning and will shot it in controled lightning and I'll be easily able to 'bring it alive' in a photo-montage... Let Us See The Raw File plz... Nice shot Dude! For real! :)

An awesome image. As a photogrpher who likes to shoot macro; I know how diificult this is. The average person does not care how you achieved the image, but knows a wonderful shot when they see one. My 10 year old daughter even went WOW on this one. That is part of the beauty of digital photography.

Martin, I don't like it when pics are criticized for being enhanced solely on the grounds of the enhancement. It takes the focus away from the pic and into technique. It's too bad those purists who don't like PS images can't just appreciate the images. Do the purists not use filters? choose film? change lenses? angles? Then what is so bad about extending choices. I like this shot; it's about the best in flight bee shot I have seen. It looks like it's flying about 10 degrees away from the plane of your camera and slightly ahead. For the shot to be perfect in my eyes it would have to do a 180 and come back at 10 degrees toward the camera. That would leave the background, foreground with plenty of space to fly into. Still love it as is though. Now I'm going to chase bees around trying to match your skill:) Regards, Bernie

the fack that its hard to shoot objects, that are fast in movement, doesen't make em' superior objects to film. and I disaprove that yoy dare people to same.. every person photographs different way..

My oppinion, you made the worst mistake as a phortagrephar, witch is that you made everyting else (but the bee black and wight) .. i totally like the fact that you captioned the bee on his flight, ( whitch is an acchivement as it own) but.. thats pretty much it.. You should have given more space to the the right so that the wiever would have more questions..
