I appreciate any comments and suggestions you have on the photo. Do

you like this crop, or should leave more/less black border?

Have I not seen this image before? I think I have. Seems to me that one of the comments to the previous photo was to correct what that viewer felt was a bothersome slant of the door frame. Here the door frame lines up perfectly. Just curious......if I'm right which version do you find more appealing Panayotis?

To Dehvid & Sally:

Commenting and critiqueing my own photo couldn't possibly be objective or fair. I hadn't seen Dehvid's version until he mentioned it. So I did check it out and here's what I feel:

In this shot I was mostly after the mood. I think the backlit curtain on the right adds up to give the impression that there's more to it than what can be seen through the left pane and implies you are sitting in a cosy bedroom. Overall I feel the image has a warmth and its tone helps.

In Dehvid's version I find the color distracting. erhaps a BW version could be better. The door frame is not part of the image, it acts as a frame only and is very strict and rigid. The house ruin outside seem like an interesting subject but the junk on the ground is only cluttering the image. Overall I would prefer this image whithout the door as a frame.

Regarding the slant:

If you check he verticals on both photos in PS you will see that there is a very slight slant CW in mine and an equally small slant CCW in Dehvid's. This was introduced during the scan in mine(i don't know about Dehvid's). In mine there is a more pronounced CW slant on the horizontals of the window but not on the balcony. This is because the window is not fully shut. I don't find either is offensive.

A note on the technical side: Dehvid your image seems rather soft, and that counts as minus too. I would expect a Rolleicord to be a lot sharper than that. Is this a bad scan?

By the way, this was shot in March 2003. I never keep exact dates, that's why none of my photos have one (photo.net does not accept partial dates)

Panayotis, you've got me all wrong. I wasn't refering to the other person's photo, I was refering to YOUR first version of this image. In fact I prefer your initial image for the very reasons others didn't. My question to you was something of a fishing expedition in that I wanted to know why exactly YOU changed YOUR image. I have yet to see Dehvid's photo. Sorry for the mix up!

Sally I misunderstood you indeed. However now you've got me confused. Although I have uploaded newer versions (i.e. better scans of the same prints) for several of my photos, I do not remember this one being one of them (not to mention I don't have any other version on my HD). Are you sure you haven't seen some other photo very similar to this one?

(Don't get me wrong. My memory is pretty bad, I just don't think it's that bad!)

Anyway, to answer your question, if there ever was another version, it was just another scan of the same print, any preference would be regarding the quality of the scan not the print itself. I don't have a digital camera neither a film scanner, so all the uploaded photos are scans from 4x6" prints for color and 8x10" prints for BW.

By the way the reason for the new versions, is that I orginally (and accidentally) had set my home monitor to a high gamma and had to make the scans really dark to look right. When I saw them at work I realized my mistake and had to rescan them and upload them again.

Sorry about all this confusion.
