mark_chatham1 0 Posted February 10, 2004 This shot was taken in Kemah, Texas. I was about to leave when the clouds oped up just enough to allow beams of light through the clouds. Link to comment
danijel_turina 0 Posted February 10, 2004 A rare sight indeed. Congratulations on the catch. :) Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted February 10, 2004 A stunning visual. A collection of puncture wounds in the clouds. Link to comment
brian_joy 0 Posted February 10, 2004 Good thing you waited around a little longer! Nice job. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted February 10, 2004 Astonishing collection of shafts of light. Link to comment
juan man32 0 Posted February 11, 2004 It is quite eye-catching. However, I agree with the previous comment, there is something that doesn't look right... Again, could you please explain why the sunrays do not match with the water reflection... ? Link to comment
john_jarrett 0 Posted February 11, 2004 but weird. The horizon looks to me like a picture at sunset however the light rays definitely seem to be from above. And the light rays are not all coming from the same direction. To get this effect I would think your light source would have to be much closer to the clouds then the sun would be. And finally the reflections of the water really don't match up either. 7/6 Link to comment
mark_chatham1 0 Posted February 11, 2004 The photography is real. I used PS to sharpen, add contrast and saturation to the picture. If anything I over saturated the picture. To explain the beams not "matching" my theory is that they are too narrow and are blended together. Some of the beams of light is actually over land. I certainly do not have the expertise with PS to pull off a fake of this magnitude. Wish I did though. John I would be glad to send you the original file. tripanfal 3 Posted February 12, 2004 Mark, I checked out your other photos and you have me convinced this is not PS. I thought this was stunning before and I think so even more now after viewing your other images. Some folks are fast to jump on work for being photoshopped. Skies and light can do strange things. Congrats on a great series of images. Some of the best sunsets I have seen in a long time. Warm regards Link to comment
og 0 Posted February 12, 2004 I like the colors, composition (perhaps even more in other pictures from your Pbase portfolio): excellent picture.Just to explain what you see: the sea will reflect the light coming into your direction (vertical plan). Therefore the reflexions are from the bright holes in the clouds, not from the rays of light that we see here. And the Sun is located at the intersection of the rays, and in front of us (Hmmm... but very far... :-) Link to comment
mike_davis 0 Posted February 12, 2004 I can't recall having seen crepuscular rays in so many disparate planes. Nice catch! Link to comment
bryantrook 0 Posted February 12, 2004 Wow, this is great. Did you purposefully get the closest beam dead-center in the photo? A very unique event to capture. (I could fake this in PS anyday..) Link to comment
sreekumar_pisharath 0 Posted February 12, 2004 A stunning photograph of a unique event. Mark, may I know which equipment did you use? Link to comment
chrisspracklen 0 Posted February 12, 2004 if you're faking it, (which I really don't believe you are), you're fooling yourself more than anyone! Extraordinary capture of an extraordinary scene! Very well done, Mark! Kind regards, Chris Link to comment
john_jarrett 0 Posted February 12, 2004 You have convinced me. I have changed my ranking. It truly is a very pretty picture. Thanks for sharing it. Link to comment
frank_chang 0 Posted February 12, 2004 Great picture! Not sure why this went into a 'faking' it or not discussion. Even if there is PS work, doesn't make this less of a good picture. My only comment is that I feel that the middle beam of light coming from center above (beyond the top of the frame) seems to a bit distracting. Link to comment
igor f 0 Posted February 12, 2004 This is a wonderful capture of a wonderful moment. The light both in the ray and in the horizon look simply spectacular. Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted February 12, 2004 Yes Igor, but what is that fence looking thing in the foreground..Part of the pix, so shouldnt it be addressed..means looked into Alec, not address such as Kowloon Bay.. Link to comment
shadow-island 0 Posted February 13, 2004 The main beem being the CEO is only as strong as his/her staff. I would say, this is a strong company. Great shot "Leadership poster written all over it. Link to comment
chris_guyer 0 Posted March 5, 2004 Wow, nicely done. About why the rays and the water don't line up, I wonder if the water is reflecting the holes in the sky, not the rays themselves. Link to comment
rafikrkamel 1 Posted December 21, 2006 mark amazing shot here, i love those light beams and the colors. bravo, however i suggest to crop the bottom of the frame as it is a bit distracting, regards, RK! Link to comment
