I was taking family portraits of my friends family, and this little girl who lived

next door just came in the house and sat in the chair and posed just like this. I

was changing film and thought she would move, but she kept looking like this,

so I took this one shot.

... and probably this was the best shot of the day, wasn't it? Unplanned things often come out the best. This is very good, with an excellent balance of light and tones and an intense expression, difficult to obtain from youngs. Maybe an infinitesimal less cropping to include the whole of her fingertips?

From your discription it was lucky, and lucky to have a superb camera in hand and some wonderful light, all in time to catch an engaging subject. This is a great portrait. Thanks for sharing.

Striking gaze.

This is great ! Well, I might prefer it quite larger, with space on the sides out of the elbows and over the head... Then, you could have the DOF ok with the edge of the shirt on her back. Anyway, more of that, please :-)
