A bit too contrived, but nice overall effect. The ball does not fit onto a chess board, but I understand that it was in the service of satisfying your title...the pieces have been captured nicely (focus, lighting, angle), and I'm glad you did not feel the need to include all of them, enabling you to zoom in more on your ball. Nice "alternative" chess shot.

The choice of frosted glass chess pieces was a good one. I really enjoy the way the light plays among and through them. Three distractions, though:
  1. The marble appears...scratched? It has one heck of a reflection going. It doesn't match the peaceful glow of the chess pieces.
  2. What is that thing on the top left?
  3. There is a strange...reflection?...of two of the pawns onto the black spaces in front of them.
Otherwise, most beautiful.

I really like the choice of frosted glass pieces as well. They look very rigid and as if they are standing at attention.

I also agree that it might be a stronger picture if you got rid of the little circle in the upper left.

I like the angle of the board and the perspective from above.

this shot has definite potential, it's just not quite there. maybe try from different angles (possibly lower/at the level of the pieces)

The thing in the top left is the "leg" of the chessboard. It is not marble, it is Crystal. Thank you for your comments. Trust me I understand how a marble might be out of place. I was only playing aroud to try new things, to see what I could manage. I would never hope to see this image "famous" or anything, just wanted to share =o)
