Julian, I like it. Easy for me to say now but I wonder if it would have been improved if the subject were off center, ie. placed on the left side. His cane & body direction are pointing right. A keeper in any case. Best, LM.

I like it; the only thing I think would improve it is burning in the left side of the picture (to the left top of the man), as it is bright and somewhat distracting from the man.

Have you cropped out part of the bench? I think that moving the subject to the left and showing more of the empty bench would emphasize the loneliness of the scene.
