I like the colors, but would prefer if the bird was off-centede with more space in front of the egret. Nice shot.

Nice composition, exposure, sharp - IMHO I would prefer to see the horizon cropped. Seems to force more attention to the bird and makes for a stronger image.

Did you use a tripod for this shot? The composition works for me in its intense detail. The wood grain's complexity is a beautiful contrast to the bird's solid white/black/red. I agree that cropping the blue sky would add much more focus to the subject. Great image!

Thanks for commenting. This was an off-hand shot, zoomed out to about 220mm. The IS lens really helps! I agree about cropping out the sky, but want to leave enough room so the bird doesn't seem closed in.
