tonystoker 0 Posted June 21, 2001 It was sunset and the whole beach turned pink. It only lasted a minute or so so complex setup wasn't possible. Any thoughts on how I might have improved on this? Link to comment
markus_arike 0 Posted June 21, 2001 I like the colors overall. Could be a bit more contrast, but I really like the pink hues of the sand. It is alittle disconcerting that the top of the mast is cut off. Link to comment
watchcow 0 Posted June 22, 2001 The colors are interestng, the boat being so prominent and then the mast getting chopped is distracting. my inclinatiuon would have been to get back a bit and make a horizontal composition out of this scene and let the boat, mast and all, be in it as a "big little" a tiny part of the total image that give the whole image some sense of scale. as it is, it is technically a good photograph, focus and exposure are good, but the content doesn't give me any idea of what is actually going on or the mood, no person is in it, the boat is new so it is not conveying any sense of lonliness or desolation. if it was just about the pretty light then the boat isn't really needed. this looks like a normal or maybe moderate wide angle was used, there is not much distortion so i was guessing 35-50mm. If i had one available i think i would have tried a bit wider lens. maybe a 24mm? did you use a polarizer to try to get the actual water colors or is a lot of that lightness reflections? i do like the image, its one i would put in my album if it were from my vacation or honeymoon, (in that case i would want the spousal unit lounging on the boat ) but i am not sure its a wall hanger. capturing falling light like this is a trying process because its very dificult to repeat results. i think this is a good effort.
