The look

nina1

Just turned into b&w in Photoshop. I know this isn't exactly an average portrait for the family album - but the look on this one was so intense I couldn't resist posting it :)

I am honestly jealous whenever I see such beautiful pictures from digital photographers! I am a staunch film advocate, and I have one less reason for using digital when I view this portrait.

You captured a wonderful facial expression, which is just sincere and candid! I would hope to see more of the surroundings for context, but this image holds it's on quite nicely.

great shot, timeless. i could see this being a shot from like the 20's or something (if only they had digital back then ;) )

My comment is implicit in my rating of it, excellent!!!

Steve, that is because your are seeing it on a screen, keep with negative. (unless you are grotesquely rich :-) )

Thank you all so much for the great feedback!

Steven: I haven't regretted going from film to digital a single day. Since I don't know a thing about what to do in a dark room - but know PS fairly well this has really been a great change for me. Now I can finally control the end result of my pictures.

Beautiful! Haunting! Splendid work. Just one query: Did you crop the top of her head? If so, I wonder what that might have looked like.

Thanks to David and Mert as well :)

Yes David - I cropped off some of the top head before I posted it - I'll post the full frame version as soon as I get home from work this evening.

I am watching my niece right now, and just hoping for a picture half as good as this. Remarkable capture of the moment.

The original is almosat as good as the cropped version but I like best the one submitted by you.

Actually, I am impressed and awed by its force and beauty. Congratulations

i like the cropped one too, so that the forehead doesn't take away from her eyes so much. i can only imagine what she's thinking. lol.

I honestly find this image really creepy. The girl looks as though she is scared stiff, and that makes me feel really very uneasy. I understand that this is a deliberately created effect, making the eyes unnaturally large?

Unfortunately the eyes have been way over-processed. Tone it down a bit and you may have a good image. Nice otherwise, but the eyes don't do any favours at all...
