Yves Petronin 42 Posted November 14, 2023 Incredible portrait, the eyes seem more animated than on a live person... Very refiined expert lighting, and this probably explains the magic... Link to comment

Yves Petronin 42 Posted November 14, 2023 I had missed the fact that it was a self portrait...Even more stunning. You could switch and make a new career as a model.... Take care.... 1 Link to comment
Yves Petronin 42 Posted November 16, 2023 I am back petrified with admiration. What is the light source iif not a secret ? It seems to be soft and at the same time very precise... I am trying to play with studio equipment, but I have never been close to this rendition.... Link to comment

Yves, I think I just used two Nikon speedlights and dialed back an exposure setting on both lights until I got lucky. I am still learning and experimenting. Link to comment

Yves, I forgot to indicate the light settings and placements. The light on the left was about 2 stops less than the light on the right. The left light was about 6' from the left eye at about 45 degrees left of center. The light on the right was about 4' from right (my left) eye positioned at 90 degrees to my right side. Sorry I didn't think of that when I first responded. Saludos Link to comment
Yves Petronin 42 Posted November 17, 2023 Thanks. I could not imagine that two light sources were used. I had read many times that a single source was easier to handle and in most cases had a more natural look. I had tried to guess from the usual lightspots in the eyes, but could not really see much, and even more striking, there is absolutely no reflexion in the glasses. I have shared the link to the picture with several friends, either photographers or artists, and they are all astonished like me, as the shot reminds some of them from perfect Dutch paintings of the 17th century !!! Congrats to the top notch artist and model of the 21th century ! Link to comment
