Wayne Sadler 582 Posted August 11, 2023 Soon after sitting for a much needed rest on a bench near this store in Chinatown it became clear this was no ordinary store. A slow but steady stream of locals would come and chat for a while with the gentleman at the table out front and then he or another would bring them their order – more a social affair than a business transaction. When I arrived home from my San Francisco visit I researched this store. Seems the Eastern Bakery on Grant Avenue in Chinatown has been around for nearly a century. And judging from the reviews and articles written this store has a loyal following that appreciates its delicious cakes and pastries including its signature coffee crunch cake and fresh lotus mooncakes. (With some pride and regret I report my fat pre-diabetic butt resisted the temptation to partake.) Link to comment
