Wayne Sadler 592 Posted October 26, 2022 This piece inherits the sentience of a Jacob Lawrence painting – not his social realism but his bold “pared down” figures and forms devoid of detail but with expressive angles full of energy, tension, strife and emotion. When I first saw Lawrence’s work I was amazed that such simple forms and somewhat abstract shapes could be made so dynamic and expressive. (Aaron Douglas may also be influencing this piece too.)
