Song thrushes tend to be shy mostly, but this one seemed to be enjoying the morning sun when I saw it and made no effort whatsoever to fly away when I slowly moved in its direction. It didn't sing for me (which they can do beautifully), but I was happy getting this good look at it. Although the appearance of this bird may seem a little dull compared to the plumages you' may be used to where you live, I really enjoyed meeting this bird and being able to photograph it. Your comments are very welcome.

Hi Vincent! Song thrushes and Starlings are not so common any more in Sweden and that is a pity. The Pandemic brought me a new interest i.e. bird photographing. I often use full aperture to get a nice bokeh in my bird close ups. I like your image but the bird head is a little bit to over sharpened in my eyes. Best regards, Arthur

The bird stands out very sharp from the blurred background, good the light and colors, the branch with lichens is an added value. He will sing for you next time , ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Arthur,

thank you for your friendly comments! Sad to hear that song thrushes and starlings aren't common anymore in Sweden, they are still quite numerous here in the Netherlands. I have noticed your interest in bird photography of course! You're right about the oversharpening on the bird's head; I think I used different processing for this photo than for most of my other images. and went a bit too far on the sharpening. Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent, your love of nature and uncanny ability to find subjects with potential is good news for your viewers. This image presents the opportunity to imagine how sweet the bird's singing must be. I respectfully disagree with Arthur as to the bird's head; to me, its degree of sharp detail highlights differences in feather patterns. Quite honestly, though, if this were my photograph, I'd soften the tree branch. I find it somewhat distracting. - - My best always, michael

Hi Michael,

thank you for your appreciative comments! Arthur and you are both right in my opinion; I went overboard with sharpening in a process not well known to me and it affected both the bird's head and the branch, which is indeed a bit distracting. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Vincent, lovely portrait of this subtlety beautiful thrush, very similar to our wood thrush here in the eastern USA. They’re often heard in summer arboreal forests but seldom seen.

BTW, wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a happy, safe, new year. Charles.
