This little duckling was resting on a thin branch in the water near the blind I was in. It was holding on to a feather, probably because of the fact feathers are part of the nesting materials ducklings are used to (if there is a better explanation, I would certainly like to hear it) . Its mom was around, as were his/her brothers and sisters. The crest/tuft these ducks are known for is not yet visible in this stage of development of the juvenile ducks. Your comments are very welcome.

A beautiful portrait of this duckling that appears to be resting on a hammock. Perfect light and perfect sharpness of the subject that allows you to appreciate every detail of the plumage,

, good the eye contact, the extraneous light feather is a bonus, well done from a technical point of view, ciao Giangiorgio

Vincent, this image's story centers on innocence. If any creature has that, undoubtedly the duckling does. To watch nature go by while floating on a duckling's equivalent of a raft and waiting for parents to come back with food..... need I say more. Marvelous photograph! - - My best always, michael

Vincent, this is a terrific image with such good clarity and details. It is very interesting how it was holding onto the feather, and your explanation seems to make sense. At that early stage of life, it would provide a sense of security. Well done! Todd

Hi Todd,

thank you for your friendly comments! I'm glad you like the image and support my explanation of the feather in the beak of this duckling, it seemed the most logical explanation to me. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Michael,

I think you have nailed what got me to photograph this scene: the innocence of this little duckling. It's apparent this creature doesn't have any bad intention (yet). Thank you for your comment and your support! Kind regards, Vincent
