vincentoiseau 83 Posted July 19, 2021 The painted lady (vanessa cardui) is a very common butterfly in many parts of the world. They are a migratory species, traveling long distances and mating throughout the year to have optimal conditions for survival, as butterflies do not have a long lifespan. They are beautiful even with folded wings. Your comments are very welcome. Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 503 Posted July 21, 2021 A magnificent macro of this beautiful butterfly placed on a carpet of flowers, very good lighting and sharpness of both the butterfly and the flowers, thanks for the interesting accompanying notes , ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment

vincentoiseau 83 Posted July 21, 2021 Hi Giangiorgio, thank you for your friendly comments! I used a small aperture (f 16) to get a large part of the butterfly and flowers in focus. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted July 21, 2021 Hi Todd, thank you for your comments, nice to hear from you! It was a very sunny day, so I was able to photograph with a very small aperture (f 16). Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted July 23, 2021 You just as easily could have posted this image in the macro category, given the exquisite detail in the butterfly's body, antennae, and legs. Gangiorgio's observation about the tiny flowers prompted me to admire the contrasts between them and the butterfly: color, species, and tonality . Moreover, the dark green BG is entirely fitting. I must say that this is a spectacular example of macrophotography, Vincent. - - My best always, michael Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted July 24, 2021 Hi Michael, thank you for your appreciative comments and for favoriting this photo! Yes, it's a macro, but not in the true sense of the category (1:1). I got as much in focus as I could. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
