Hi Charles,

 

I have never seen the downy woodpecker as it is not present in Europe, and the species we have in my country are quite difficult to photograph. Very nice light and composition in this image, with the somewhat 'busy' DoF of the Sigma 150-600 at this range. You are lucky to have so many woodpecker species in your region; we have only three where I live. Kind regards, Vincent

Thank you so much Vincent. I’m happy this grabbed your attention. The Downy species is essentially a smaller version of the Hairy woodpecker, both of which are very common in this area - and a challenge to photograph as they move around quite a bit. This one paused from foraging to “pose for the camera.” Best regards
