This small heath was quietly feeding on lavender flowers in a field close to les Mées (southern France) in the late afternoon. Although I photographed this butterfly in France, I could have done it almost anywhere, as this species is not rare at all throughout Europe. I like the feeling of summer I get looking at these insects. You rarely see these butterflies with opened wings, at least I didn't have the luck to see (let alone photograph) one. Your comments are very welcome.

Bravo Vincent. An excellent macro, the lateral position of the butterfly allows a precise focus that enhances all the details very well, the head with the antennae and the coiled proboscis are very clear. Lavender flowers add a hint of color , ciao Giangiorgio

Vincent, for a portrait of a butterfly, this image is a superior macro. The folds in its wings resemble those of Asian paper screens. In a sense, its antennae remind me of very slender pieces of pasta angel hair. The detail in its entire body is sharp enough to reveal even the finest detail, and yet there are no sharpness artifacts. Finally the colors contrast and blend very well. - - My best always, michael
