Great color and detail in the bird. They make great subjects. Would you please tell me the lens you used? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Brian. Thanks for your comments. Almost all of my recent bird photos have been taken with a Sigma Contemporary 150-600/5-6.3 DG. I’ve had it for about a year and a half now and so far very happy with it. Sigma make a “Sport” version of this lens with all metal construction and better weather sealing. The “C” is surprisingly heavy but manageable, without need for support. The “S” is significantly heavier. Both are very fine lenses for the money. HTH. Sincerely, Charles.

A very nice portrait of this woodpecker, good light and colors. I also recently bought the Sigma 150-600mm Sport, much more manageable than the previous Sigma supertele 300-800, but still of excellent quality. ciao Giangiorgio

Good morning again Charles, I like all of your wood pecker shots. I have the same lens but I have not been happy with image quality lately. Yours look nice and sharp. But I have been using a Canon Rebel T5i. It is still a decent camera but I think an upgrade is due. There could be an 80D or 90D in my future.

Thanks again Brian for your comments and taking a moment to view my portfolio. I also have the T5i but haven’t yet paired it with this lens. I’ll have to try it out and see if the results are any different. But I suspect it’s not the camera. Your copy of the lens may need a fine focus adjustment and/or the last firmware update. My lens did not come with the update which significantly improves autofocus speed & accuracy. Once installed, I noticed a significant improvement. I needed the separate lens dock which I picked up used on eBay for about $25. That item facilitates firmware downloads & fine tuning OS performance, & I think fine focus adjusting. I used the fine focus adj. setting in the 80D specifically for my EF 70-200/4L that consistently back-focuses. The camera recognizes this lens when mounted and applies the saved focus settings. One reason to upgrade your camera!
