Cormorants are fairly large and sometimes clumsy birds; they are not very agile and acrobatic like small songbirds or falcons. This bird landed on the branch and almost lost its balance, so it flapped its wings to stay on the branch. I had my camera ready and was lucky enough to capture the splashing of water drops coming from the wings. Your comments are very welcome.

Bravo Vincent. A beautiful image of this cormorant, good the pose with the wings well spread and the myriad of droplets in mid-air, perfect sharpness that allow to appreciate every detail, ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Giangiorgio,

thank you for your friendly comments and appreciation! I knew the cormorant was going to land on this branch, so I was in time to capture the water drops coming from its wings. Kind regards, Vincent

Fine bird and fine sharpness. Did you really need a bean bag with this shutter speed of 1/1000?

Hi Philip,

that's a good question. Although the lens I shot this photo with isn't heavy, I took advantage of the position I was in (in a blind with a beanbag on the window) and the certainty that the cormorant was going to land on this branch. I could have shot it handheld, but the chance of success would be less, as this lens has no image stabilisation. Kind regards, Vincent
