Rocks and sky

1986 was the year I discovered the beauty of the little town of Saou, in the Drôme department, southeastern France. The town itself is obviously not in the photo, but the rocks surrounding it are spectacular and make up an important part of the local scenery. I liked the harshness of the rocks against the soft cloudy sky. The bird on the left is (probably) a griffon vulture, but it's too small in the image to be sure. I shot this photo on Agfapan 100 negative film, using a yellow filter to get the right luminosity and contrast in the sky. Your comments are very welcome.

A very beautiful image, the B & W enhances the texture of the rocks, well highlighted the clouds that seem to follow the outline of the mountains. You used a great film that also gave me excellent results, ciao Giangiorgio

thank you for your friendly comments! I was impressed by what Franz referred to as '3D', the contrast between the harshness of the rocks and the soft clouds. It's nice to read that you used Agfapan 100 too. It was one of my favorite B&W films. I some times used the low-iso Agfapan 25 too, but that wasn't suited for most situations. Kind regards, Vincent
