sriram 0 Posted December 6, 2003 What a good capture! Even without the bird this would have been a good picture. Almost as if the bird is taking shelter from the brewing storm. Is the bird inserted into the picture? The only reason I ask is because of the angle of the tree trunk...birds generally don't hang at such angles.... Link to comment

ben_lanterman1 0 Posted December 8, 2003 I see the flickers and red headed woodpecker in my back yard doing this all the time. Upside down, every way you could think of they do. They literally hop upside down on a tree branch, hunting for bugs and grubs. This is a trivial angle for them. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted December 9, 2003 You will notice it bracing its tail against the trunk. This adaptation of woodpeckers enables them to hang on a vertical (or greater) surface. Link to comment
simon_meehan 0 Posted December 9, 2003 HI.If I remember correctly, these guys have two toes on the front and two at the back??They could probably hang upside down.I think they are becoming increasingly rare due to loss of habitat.Nice composition.S. Link to comment
